An impressive streak for Hurricanes defenseman Dougie Hamilton has come to an end
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dougie Hamilton had a pretty impressive, and surely overlooked, streak come to an end Monday night.
A look at the box score of the Carolina Hurricanes’ 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators Monday night shows nothing that seems to be of particular note. Hurricanes defenseman Dougie Hamilton had an assist, his second straight game with a helper. But a closer look shows something that is notable, uncovered by Hurricanes’ NHL.com reporter Michael Smith.
For the first time since April 5, 2016, Hamilton did not register a shot on goal. His streak of 296 games with a shot on goal was the longest active streak. The all-time record streak for consecutive games with a shot on goal (since the NHL began recording the statistic) is held by Ray Bourque, with 360. Bourque also holds the record for most shots in a single game (19).
Hamilton is an offensive defenseman, with 301 points (96 goals, 205 assists) in 555 games. He has routinely been among the overall shots leaders in the league, let alone narrowed to strictly among blue liners. Even this year, he has 17 shot attempts in three games (five shots on goal).
