Career Salary Game: Joe Thornton
With news of his signing with the Florida Panthers, how much has Joe Thornton made in his career?
Joe Thornton could have retired today, and he’d be in the Hall of Fame early in his eligibility (if not the first year). With over 1,600 career regular season games, over 400 goals and over 1,100 assists, with Hart and Art Ross Trophies on his resume, he’s got nothing to prove.
But he has never won a Stanley Cup, and on Friday “Jumbo Joe” agreed to a one-year deal for the league minimum ($750,000) with the Florida Panthers as he continues that quest. Money is clearly not a priority for the 42-year old, as he signed a $700,000 deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs last offseason.
After taking minimum salary deals two offseasons in a row, how much has Thornton made during his NHL career?
According to Spotrac, before his deal with the Panthers, Thornton has a career salary total of $110,791,561. That $750,000 from Florida will push him over $111.5 million in career earnings, over 24 seasons. He has never made more than $8 million in a season.
