This idea for the next Chicago Bears head coach is patently uninspiring
NFL insider Benjamin Allbright has an idea for who should be the next Chicago Bears head coach, and it's realistic and uninspiring at the same time.
After Week 3’s record-setting offensive ineptitude against the Cleveland Browns, in Justin Fields’ first career start, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy is on the hottest of hot seats. He’ll probably last the season, but barring a significant turnaround he’ll be fired the day after the season ends.
The top priority for the Bears is to find a coach that can get the most out of Fields. Nagy isn’t it, as no quarterback is immune to his ineptness as an offensive mind and playcaller.
As for who could replace Nagy, Fields will be someone candidates want to work with. NFL insider Benjamin Allbright has put a possible candidate out there.
Greg Roman is in his third season as offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. His history with mobile quarterbacks goes beyond that though, as offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers with Colin Kaepernick (2011-2014) and the Buffalo Bills with Tyrod Taylor (2015).
In Week 3, Nagy and his offensive staff seemed incapable of trying to use Fields’ mobility on designed rollouts, etc. Yes the offensive line was overmatched to the tune of nine sacks allowed, but the game plan did the rookie signal caller no favors.
Roman isn’t a sexy head coaching candidate, and a career move to leave Lamar Jackson’s side anytime soon could be questioned. But Allbright is probably on to something to place Roman as a candidate for the Bears, assuming of course that Nagy is gone. If Roman is the guy that replaces Nagy, he won’t win the vanity game like some others would upon being hired. But if he wins games and Fields becomes the star most people think he can be, nothing else will matter.
It’s obviously very early, who do you think the Bears should have their eye on to replace Nagy? Outside the box ideas are welcome-hit the “leave a comment” button below to drop some names.
