Oral Roberts becomes 9th No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 seed
With an overtime win over Ohio State on Friday, Oral Roberts became the ninth 15 seed to beat a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament
March Madness is back this year, and we have our first upset of the NCAA Tournament. The No. 15 seed in the South Region, Oral Roberts, led No. 2 seed Ohio State at halftime. The game remained tight, and went to overtime before the Golden Eagles out of the Summit League advanced with a 75-72 victory.
Max Abmas, the country’s leading scorer, had 29 points and Kevin Obanor had a game-high 30 points for Oral Roberts. They are just the ninth No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 seed in NCAA Tournament history.
There's only been eight No. 15 seeds that beat No. 2 seed in NCAA history. Oral Roberts just took Ohio State to OT, hoping to join this group. The last one was Giddy Potts and Middle Tennessee back in 2016 over Michigan State.
That 1993 Santa Clara squad was led by a relative unknown name Steve Nash. The 2012 Lehigh team had current Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum. Abmas (pronounced ACE-muss) might be next in the line of small school stars.
