Robert Griffin III savages Kirk Cousins after Vikings draft Kellen Mond
Robert Griffin III resurfaced on Bleacher Report's draft show, and he took an opportunity to say how he feels about a former teammate.
Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins were part of the same draft class for Washington in 2012. Griffin eventually got hurt, opening the door for Cousins to take the starting job.
Early in the third round on Friday night, with the 66th overall pick, the Minnesota Vikings drafted Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond. That’s a clear statement about their plan for the future after Cousins, possibly in 2022 and almost surely in 2023.
Griffin was part of Bleacher Report’s draft show on Friday night. Speaking about the Mond pick, he took the opportunity to offer an opinion on Cousins.
I can tell you right now No. 8 in Minnesota is probably not real happy right now. Because Kellen Mond represents exactly what he doesn't do well. And as you see, Cousins has been collecting checks there in Minnesota for a long time, taking them to 8-8, 9-7 seasons. If he has a bad start to the year like he did last year, I could see the fans and maybe the organization leaning towards Mond if he comes in and impresses."
The idea Mond could replace Cousins this year is an aggressive one from RG3. But if things really go off the rails for the Vikings, with Cousins healthy or not, it’s not impossible. Perhaps due the volume of picks Minnesota made Friday night, four third-round picks, Cousins acknowledged the new rookies in one tweet. Someone could read into the order he listed them in, if they were so inclined.
