The San Diego Padres have built quite the starting rotation
As they go against the grain this offseason, the San Diego Padres have built a formidable starting rotation
This MLB offseason has been another pretty slow one, but the San Diego Padres apparently did not get that memo. If trades for Yu Darvish and Blake Snell weren’t enough, they made another deal for a starting pitcher on Monday.

With the acquisition of Joe Musgrove in a trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates, here’s how the Padres starting rotation is lined up look like on Opening Day

And if manager Jayce Tingler were filling out a lineup card today, here’s how that might look (1-8, assuming no universal DH).
1-Tommy Pham, LF
2-Fernando Tatis, SS
3-Eric Hosmer, 1B
4-Manny Machado, 3B
5-Wil Myers, RF
6-Trent Grisham, CF
7-Ha-seong Kim, 2B
8-Austin Hedges, C
The Padres could have stood basically pat this offseason, hanging their hat on a bright future, virtually assured of a playoff spot and second place in the NL West this year. But they are not sitting on their hands, with an eye on legitimately threatening the defending champion Dodgers.
