Career Salary Game: Jay Bruce
Sunday was the final game of Jay Bruce's MLB career, which begs the question-how much did he make?
The New York Yankees recent signing of second baseman Rougned Odor moved DJ LeMahieu over to first base, and pushed Jay Bruce out of the lineup.
The veteran left-handed slugger was off to a 4-for-34 start this season, so his lineup spot was hardly secure anyway. On Sunday, effective after the day’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays (which is now over), into his 14th major league season, Bruce announced he would retire.
Bruce signed a minor league contract with the Yankees last offseason, and Luke Voit’s season-starting injury allowed him to earn a roster spot.
Bruce’s production faded late in his career, but during a 2019 campaign split between the Indians and Mariners he hit 26 home runs with a 101 OPS+. From 2010-2017, mostly with the Cincinnati Reds, he averaged 29 home runs and 91 RBI per season with an OPS+ of at least 113 in six of those eight campaigns.
So in the question posed by this series of posts here at All The Balls, how much did Bruce make in his career?

According to Baseball Reference, Bruce made $102,749,166. Spotrac has his career earnings at $98,712,313. As much as a few million either way can be of little consequence in the big picture, Bruce made roughly $100 million on the field during his career. Not too bad.
