Stefon Diggs won a lot of fantasy football leagues this year
Stefon Diggs has had a great season in 2020, and based partly on where he was drafted he surely helped deliver a lot of fantasy league titles.
One of the highest profile trades of last NFL offseason sent wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings netted their replacement for Diggs with an extra first-round pick from the deal, and Justin Jefferson became an instant star.
From a fantasy football angle, the move to Buffalo seemed to pretty much be a lateral one for Diggs. In terms of ADP, he came off the board in WR2 territory- in the 50’s or 60’s overall (fifth or early sixth round in a 12-team league).
In parallel with a great season from Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen, Diggs has easily set career-highs in yards and catches this year.
I’ll let a set of tweets speak for themselves.
For the fantasy season as a whole (through Week 16), Diggs finished as WR3 across the board (full-point PPR, 0.5-point PPR and standard scoring). From Week 13-16, over the run referenced above by Pro Football Focus, he was WR1 in full PPR and WR2 in standard scoring. In standard scoring only Davante Adams, with 35 catches (on 44 targets) for 420 yards and six touchdowns, outdid Diggs (40 catches for 514 yards, four touchdowns) among wide receivers from Week 13-16. Take away one of Adams’ touchdowns, or 26 of his yards, and Diggs would have been the WR1 across the board during the critical stretch drive of the season.
Those who drafted Diggs ended up with a top-five wide receiver at a WR2 price, who also delivered big when leagues were decided. A hypothetical vote for 2020 fantasy football MVP has to include Diggs.
